Job Summary:
We are looking for a motivated and skilled Occupational Therapist to join our Hospital Occupational Therapy Team. The successful candidate will provide high-quality occupational therapy services to inpatients with a range of complex medical and rehabilitation needs. You will work closely with patients and their families to promote recovery, enhance independence, and improve overall quality of life during their hospital stay.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assessment and Evaluation: Conduct comprehensive assessments of patients’ occupational performance and needs upon admission or as referred, including physical, cognitive, and emotional aspects.
- Intervention Planning: Develop and implement individualized treatment plans and rehabilitation goals tailored to each patient's needs, preferences, and discharge plans.
- Therapeutic Activities: Use a variety of evidence-based interventions and therapeutic activities to enhance patients' ability to perform daily living activities, both in hospital and for potential discharge.
- Multidisciplinary Collaboration: Work collaboratively with medical, nursing, and allied health staff to coordinate patient care and ensure the best possible outcomes for each patient.
- Patient and Family Education: Provide education and training to patients, families, and caregivers regarding rehabilitation techniques, home adaptations, and community resources to support ongoing recovery.
- Documentation and Reporting: Maintain clear, accurate, and comprehensive records of patient assessments, treatment sessions, progress, and outcomes in line with regulatory and professional standards.
- Quality Improvement: Participate in departmental quality improvement initiatives, including service evaluation, audits, and research projects.
- Professional Development: Engage in continuous professional development and training to keep current with best practices and changes within the field of occupational therapy.
Qualifications:
- Education: A degree or master's degree in Occupational Therapy from a UK Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC)-approved institution.
- Registration: Current registration with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) and, if applicable, membership with the Royal College of Occupational Therapists (RCOT).
- Experience: Previous experience in an acute hospital setting is advantageous; however, newly qualified OTs are also encouraged to apply.
- Skills: Strong clinical reasoning skills, critical thinking abilities, and the capability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary team.
- Communication: Excellent written and verbal communication skills to engage with patients, families, and colleagues effectively.
- Compassionate Care: A compassionate, patient-centered approach to care with a strong commitment to promoting patient independence and dignity.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to perform manual handling tasks and assist patients with mobility and daily activities in accordance with organisational policies.
